Code of Conduct

The Mutual exists for the benefit of its members. The Mutual is committed to the principles of mutuality, to ensuring the interests of its members are protected and to the promotion of the financial well-being of its members. The Mutual also operates with regard to the interests of other stakeholders.

  1. The Mutual’s Board of Directors, managers and employees are required to execute their duties with regard to the interests of members at all times.
  2. Similarly the Board and employees of The Mutual are required to meet all legal and other obligations to other legitimate stakeholders of The Mutual. These include customers, regulatory bodies, employees, creditors, suppliers and associations of which The Mutual is a member.
  3. The Mutual’s Board of Directors, managers and employees are required to protect and properly use The Mutual’s assets.
  4. Through its policies and procedures, including this Code of Conduct, The Mutual undertakes to comply with applicable legal requirements. These include but are not limited to Australian Competition law, trade practices, fair trading dealing and financial services legislation, anti-money laundering requirements, consumer protection and the protection of privacy.
  5. The privacy of members and confidential information will be protected by the Board and staff of The Mutual excepting where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
  6. The Mutual is committed to the provision of a high standard of service to its current and potential members. and customers.
  7. The Mutual undertakes to deal fairly with member and other stakeholders complaints and has a dispute resolution procedure in place.
  8. The Mutual is committed to non-discriminatory employment and work practices, retention of employees, the provision of a safe working environment and work related training opportunities.
  9. The Directors, managers and employees of The Mutual are committed to ethical behaviour and to the protection of those who report violations in good faith.
  10. The Directors, managers and employees of The Mutual will only accept gifts and entertainment expenses from suppliers / business partners related parties which are nominal in value (less than $500.00 in each instance), and will not accept any financial inducements.
  11. The Mutual will not provide contributions to political parties or participate in political activities.
  12. The Mutual is committed to reducing the environmental effects of all of its business processes.
  13. The Mutual will only provide sponsorships to organisations that enhance the well-being of the communities in which it operates.

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for investigating breaches of the Code of Conduct and for the protection of those who report violations.
This Code of Conduct forms part of The Mutual’s Corporate Governance and Human Resources Policies and is posted on The Mutual’s website.
