How to save on fees

Here are a few simple ways you can save by minimising your transactions and better managing your personal finances:

Be Effective with EFTPOS

When making an EFTPOS purchase consider if you require additional cash. The cash-out facility (if available) only counts as one transaction. You can also avoid a transaction fee by selecting “Credit” when making a purchase with your Visa Debit Card.

Internet & Phone Banking

It's free to use our Internet and Phone Banking services to transfer money between your accounts, or make a payment via BPAY®.

ATM Direct Charge Fees

Avoid ATM operator fees by using The Mutual ATMs network. You should also avoid making unnecessary balance enquiries as these also count as a transaction.

Consider a Statement Account over a Passbook Account

If you have a Passbook Account and are paying transaction fees for over-the-counter withdrawals, consider changing to a Statement Account with Visa Debit Card access. A Statement Account gives you 24-hour access to your funds through ATMs and EFTPOS, which are cheaper and more convenient than over-the-counter transactions.

Plan your Withdrawals

If you make a number of small cash withdrawals your transaction fees will quickly add up. Instead, review your cash requirements and make larger, less frequent withdrawals either weekly or fortnightly.

Periodical Payments

Transferring funds between your Mutual accounts is convenient and free. You should consider this option for regular transfers such as loan repayments.

Bank@Post (excludes Business members)

If you need to make a deposit and can't get to a branch, you may visit your nearest Australia Post Office to access our Bank@Post service. (Note: to use Bank@Post you require a Mutual Express or Visa Debit Card attached to your account).

Bring more of your business to The Mutual

Members who conduct a Home Loan, Personal Loan or maintain a minimum deposit account balance of $2,000 or more will qualify for eight additional free transactions per month. Some members may also be eligible for an exemption from transaction fees. To find out if you are eligible drop into a branch today or contact us (Note: eligibility and criteria apply).

Manage your Transaction Activities

It’s important to know your monthly transaction fee allowance and to track your banking activities. This is a simple way to avoid unnecessary transaction fees.
