Visa payWave

Visa payWave is a contactless payment method that offers a fast, safe and secure way to make purchases of less than $100, without having to insert or swipe your card or enter a PIN.

Here are just a few reasons why it is so convenient:

  • No fuss - making a purchase is simple with VISA payWave. Just hold your MUTUAL VISA Credit or Debit Card in front of the contactless terminal for a couple of seconds until the lights illuminate.
  • Fast - cruise through the check out with no need to insert or swipe your card or enter a PIN for purchases less than $100.
  • Safe - your card never leaves your sight or your hand, reducing the likelihood of you leaving it behind.
  • Secure - you have peace of mind knowing that The Mutual has advanced fraud monitoring systems to help protect your card.

How does it work?

To start using VISA payWave, the first step is to ensure that your MUTUAL VISA Credit or Debit Card has the VISA payWave logo. Once confirmed, simply follow these steps:

  • Look for the contactless or VISA payWave logo at participating merchants.
  • When the transaction amount is shown on the terminal, simply hold your card within 1cm for more than 2 seconds.
  • Collect your purchases and receipt.

When will I receive a payWave Card?

You will receive a payWave Card on expiry of your existing Visa Card.

Do I need to select my account?

With contactless payments you don’t need to press any buttons. The transaction is automatically processed to your credit account or transaction account linked to the CREDIT button.

Where can I use it?

Any retailer displaying the Visa logo and the contactless symbol.

Can I still get cash out using VISA payWave?

No. However, you can still get cash out by inserting your card, selecting the CHQ or SAV option and then entering your PIN.

Can I accidently make a purchase by simply walking past a terminal?

No. Your card has to be held within 1cm of the terminal for more than 2 seconds for the transaction to process.

Is there a limit to how much I can spend?

No. There is no limit, but for purchases of more than $100 you will need to enter your PIN.

Can I still get a receipt?

Yes. Please note that some merchants may not automatically provide a receipt under a certain amount, so make sure you ask for one before you finalise the transaction.
