Using authenticators for secure banking

To help keep your banking secure, some actions in Internet Banking and the Mutual App may require an extra step to confirm it’s really you. This extra step is called authentication.

The Mutual Bank is moving away from older authentication methods, including physical security tokens and the VIP Access app, and supporting newer, easier-to-use options for eligible members.

What is an authenticator?

An authenticator is a way of verifying your identity when you log in or complete certain actions in digital banking. It adds an extra layer of protection to your accounts.

Depending on your circumstances, authentication may be completed using SMS One-Time Password (OTP) or an approved authenticator app.

Your authentication options

SMS One-Time Password (OTP)
For many members, a one-time code can be sent by SMS to your registered mobile number when needed.

Authenticator app
If you are unable to use SMS, an approved authenticator app may be available as an alternative way to verify your identity.
